Michael Blandford

Michael is a graduate of the University of Maryland (1988) with a B. S. degree in Sociology.  His principal career was that of a Maryland State Trooper, his primary responsibility was safety as it relates to Law Enforcement.  He was tasked with training new troopers as well as supervising and training seasoned troopers on National Transportation Safety, Officer Safety, Blood Borne Pathogen Safety, Maryland Institute of Emergency Medical Safety and, of course, Handgun and Weapons Safety.

For his dedication to safety in Law Enforcement, he was recognized by the Federal Bar Association in 2003, Mothers Against Drunk Driving in 2002, President Bill Clinton in 1997, the Maryland State Governor in 1993, and even made a short appearance on the acclaimed TV show America’s Most Wanted in 2003.

Despite all the accolades Michael has received during his career, nothing gave him more satisfaction than being nominated as Maryland State Trooper of the Year in 2001 resulting in an invitation to speak at the National Chief’s Conference in St Paul , Minnesota.

After retiring from the Maryland State Police, Michael accepted the Deputy Chief position with Professional 50 State Protection, a national security company. Michael was responsible for writing and implementing their safety policies and for overseeing all in-house and on-site safety training. Michael has recently relocated to Tampa, Florida, where he is still consulting for Professional 50 State Protection as their safety consultant.

As a recent addition to the SafeStart consulting group, Michael has drawn on his vast experience with incident and accident investigations, not only as they relate to automobile accidents, but also industrial accidents and investigations.  During his career as a Maryland State Trooper, Michael has investigated over 1500 accidents, sadly to report that some resulted in fatalities.
